Admission and Registration Requirements
Placement into our program is carried out through the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) administered by ÖSYM. International students are admitted based on the Ondokuz Mayıs University International Student Entrance Exam (OMU-YÖS). According to the Special Conditions and Explanations stated in the 2020 Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide:
- 1) Candidates whose placement score is below the score of the candidate ranked 300,000th in the relevant score type will not be placed into teacher education programs, including the Guidance and Psychological Counseling program. This applies even if they list the program in their preferences.
- 2) Students may attend a one-year English Preparatory Program within the available quota. This year is not included in the regular duration of study.
- 3) Among candidates who list this program in their top five preferences and are placed, a specified number will receive scholarship support from the Ministry of National Education.
- 4) Students who list Ondokuz Mayıs University as one of their top five preferences and rank within the top:
- 500 in Y-DİL score type,
- 1000 in Y-SÖZ score type,
- 2000 in Y-EA score type,
- 3000 in Y-SAY score type,

Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-formal, Informal)
Recognition of prior learning—including vertical, horizontal, and intra-university transfers—is conducted in line with the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Regulations on Transfers Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs, Double Major, Minor Programs, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfers.
Students who have previously completed courses at another institution may be exempt from equivalent courses if the course content matches and the relevant commission approves. Newly enrolled students may also take an optional exemption exam for the compulsory first-year foreign language course.
Qualification Requirements and Rules
To graduate from the Guidance and Psychological Counseling Undergraduate Program, students must complete all required courses and accumulate 240 ECTS credits.
Program Profile
The aim of the program is to train psychological counselors who are scientifically competent, aware of national educational and social issues, and capable of producing solutions. The program is designed to ensure that students continually improve themselves, stay updated on contemporary assessment and technological developments, respect cultural differences, and adhere to professional ethics.
The curriculum includes both professional development courses and courses related to domain knowledge and general culture, supporting students’ overall academic and professional growth.
Employment Opportunities for Graduates
Graduates may work as psychological counselors in:
- Private educational institutions
- Schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (with sufficient KPSS score)
- Universities (as researchers or academic staff)
- Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers
- Guidance and Research Centers
- Ministries such as National Defense, Justice, Health
- The General Directorate of Security
- Private Psychological Counseling and Psychotherapy Centers
Access to Further Studies
After graduation, students may take the ALES exam and pursue graduate studies in Guidance and Psychological Counseling or related fields, such as:
- Philosophical, Historical, and Social Foundations of Education
- Educational Administration
- Curriculum and Instruction
Examinations, Assessment, and Evaluation
Course grades consist of:
- 40% in-term assessment
- 60% final or make-up exam score
Assessment may include exams, projects, assignments, applications, or portfolio evaluations. Relative or absolute grading systems may be used. Students must score at least 50/100 in the final/make-up exam to pass.
Graduation Requirements
Students must successfully complete all courses totaling 240 ECTS credits and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 to graduate.
